Why LGBT+
The initial codes are a starting point and only the beginning … Our team is in the process of developing a web app that will ultimately be launched on our website. This app will provide everyone in our community an opportunity to create, design and submit new codes. These designs will then be put through a voting process to reach (consensus). And once this consensus has been reached the group can then vote on the final choice. At the end of this entire process each group will then be able to officially introduce a new code to the entire community.
Imagine what we can achieve together – everyone under the LGBT banner with a piece of the rainbow to call their own. ^_^I really like this a lot, but If we were to accept all gender identities, why is Q always left out of LGBT. Gender Queer is one of the most over looked gender identities, at least from what I have seen.
Excellent question and thanks for asking – the long and short of it has everything to do with our collective history and its hard earned legacy. Consider the following:
1969 – The Stonewall riots occur in New York.
1970 – The first Gay Liberation Day March is held in New York City; The first LGBT Pride Parade is held in New York; The first “Gay-in” held in San Francisco.
That noted, our present and current state of affairs has a mere 44 years in the making – not much time when you put history into context and remember that we as in LGBT have been around since the beginning of time. The road to freedom has been slow, painful and difficult. So if you wonder why there isn’t a Q or a bevy of other letters behind the initial (4) that make the lgbt acronym - we ask that you frame your question within a historical context and contemplate the following quote from George Orwell; “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”
That said, why LGBT+ and what about “Q”?
Let’s start by looking at the definition of “plus”:
plus (pls)
conj.
1. Added to; along with: Their strength plus their spirit makes them formidable. Intelligence plus wit makes for an interesting person.
So it should be obvious why code…decoded chose to keep our legacy as a base and use the “plus” as a way to become truly inclusive without denying our rich history.
So again, what about the “Q”? What about pansexual folk? what about demisexuals? what about asexuals? What about bears, bdsm: Or what about anything and everything that’s outside of the stereotypical “lgbt” framework? What about them? Should we keep expanding the 4 letter acronym until we’ve added enough letters that it becomes diluted of all meaning? No, we believe that the “plus” is the most logical way for us to build on what we have. And what we have is the most remarkable potential to finally achieve our dreams. So here is where we suggest that we come together - agree to disagree if we must - but to realize that it is time to focus on what all really need - to advance civil rights and achieve marriage equality once and for all.
And So we ask ourselves: If not now, when?
One Message…Your Voice.institutions continue to break down and fall apart. We are the beneficiaries of a system that is so bogged down that nothing gets done. We are led by a passing generation that insists on the same old tired ideas that are no longer relevant to the emerging world we inhabit. Every preceding generation till now has been allowed to imagine a brighter future and a better tomorrow. Now our generation must learn to live with uncertainty as the only certainty.
I guess we could bitch, moan, and complain to no end, but that seems to be the way that society views our collective generation. Not fair is it? Or we can ask ourselves the most profound question of our time - How did we end up with such a mess and what can we learn from it? In the end it doesn’t really matter does it? We now confront the proverbial “damned if we do and damned if we don’t.” So may we suggest that we come together – agree to disagree on the issues that have divided us and work towards saving our own collective asses before it’s too late.

omfg. literally crying. i have always seen my characters as my family and imagined them there with me and they have power like no one else does. because they are a part of your mind, and so when your character tries to raise your self-esteem, or help you out with a relationship problem, etc., it’s actually you doing that. but your mind puts your thoughts in the facade of a character that helps you be more comfortable with it. your fucking mind solves its own problems when it knows you don’t want to listen to yourself by using a back door method and establishing those traits in your characters. it is freaking incredible.
This is me.
